Wheddon Cross, Somerset Located in England, U.K.
Authored by Pickatrail.co.uk Wheddon Cross and Cutcombe, in Somerset, have combined to form one large village that is situated on one of the highest points of Exmoor National Park. The village is also close to Minehead at the sea. Situated in a wonderful place to explore Exmoor with its wild red deer and rare Exmoor ponies, the village is also conveniently close to Snowdrop Valley, an Environmentally Sensitive Area by the River Avill, named for the spring flower that covers the woodlands creating an appearance similar to snow. The village has its own attractions including Cutcombe's ancient church of St John, dating from the Norman Conquest. There is also the 19th century coaching inn that still welcomes travelers and the Coleridge Way that runs through town in honor of the poet that once lived in the area. Additionally this beautiful rural countryside with its rustic, farmed rolling hills and woods offers endless trails for walking and cycling.
