Authored by Pickatrail.co.uk Watchet is a harbour town in Somerset near Exmoor National Park. The Church of St Decuman was built during the 12th century by Knights involved in the murder of Thomas Becket and a Holy Well is by the church. Today Watchet has a remodeled marina, a lovely promenade and at the harbour is the statue of the Ancient Mariner honoring Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner. The Market House Museum offers the town history, there is a Boat Museum, the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust Museum at Watchet Station which houses the Heritage Railway, an animal and adventure park, the historic 16th century Washford Mill, now a tourist centre with shops and the Old Mineral line is now for walking. The cliffs display greenish-blue alabaster found there, fossilized fish and remains of a woolly mammoth, while the shingle beach offers rock pools. Nearby are Iron Cleeve Abbey, the Iron-Age Daw's Castle and beautiful Dunster Castle.
