 Authored by Pickatrail.co.uk Salisbury is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, located at the convergence of five rivers; and is close to Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally Salisbury was located at 'Old Sarum' located at the Iron Age hillfort outside of 'New' Salisbury, which relocated circa 1219 when the Bishop of Sarum built the new cathedral by the river. The Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum located in the 13th century King's House has a permanent Stonehenge gallery with interactive exhibits; the archaeology of south Wilshire, and the skeleton of the Amesbury Archer an early Bronze Age man found in the area. In addition to Salisbury Cathedral, lovely gardens and historic buildings, the English Heritage grounds at Old Sarum where the ruins of the royal palace lie are open to the public.
